Throughout history, feminine features are accentuated with cascades of water over the shoulder, down the back or bubbling out.  So man imagined and fabricated Aquatic Features called FOUNTAINS.  These are one of the fastest growing segments of the aquatics world.  The management and servicing of their renovation restores the magic of the creation.  These gushers provide for psychological stress relievers, as well as artistic attractions.  Throughout history fountains were used for a sense of meditation, and a sign of civilization.
In todays world,  it is critical to health and safety that the public use a licensed and qualified installers, like JAZZIE . Fountains can be grouped, with or without concrete items in main focal area or what is called “Attractions”.  This review does not offer guidance relative to the Attractions. 
It does deal with the design and safety perimeters of the features, and deck areas.  The deck areas must drain and be controlled for slippery conditions.

Whether a facility is renovating an existing “Attraction” or installing a new one, plans may have to be submitted to the government or local officials for approval.  Preliminary and final plans including the design report and constructions documents are done prior to construction and may require on site inspections.

What are the types of fountains? Jazzie classified them as:

	Cascades: These can be cascading. Down steps, especially built for the purpose. Over walls, Out spill ways, with and without vanishing edges
	Playing Field: Pop ups of laser light and water in arcs across entrance stones and into fountain. The Sprays are often machines placed as one unit.  But Sprays can be a Center feature water
	Large plum surrounded by small individuals  Large center plume surrounded by smaller versions of the large water attraction Most fountains have catch basins.  Catch basins that hold, and are exposed as part of the attraction are norm.  They can be with paint  or with colored stones, or rug or rough stones.  Catch basins that are camouflaged  Catch basins that are part of vanishing edge  Catch basins that move like a river special features: Wave or Surf Action

Water Chemistry: Ability to maintain sanitary and clear water without/With automatic controllers

Filtration: and filters, Cartridge filters; where flow rate, water source, discharge source, quality and quantity of supply and equipment calculations.  This would be hydraulics including head loss in all piping.

Pumps: Pump curves to show design with handle the proposed flows, and may need a licensed engineer to stamp.
The presence of heavy metals, or other local conditions may effect the features.

Lighting: Fountains add visual and audio interest to our outdoor living experience.  The factors of adequate direction and number of lights creates the interest.  Use of LED and Laser lighting is preferred.

Each major fountain needs an inspection checklist for routine care.  This needs to be done monthly.
