SWIMMING LESSONS

Jazzie Pools is now registering for swimming lessons for the 2008 summer.  We will be offering swimming lessons to children.  Below are the levels of each class and class description, pre-screening dates, class sign-up sheet, swim lesson waivers, and an "ideal" schedule for classes. These lessons correspond to Levels 1-4 of the American Red Cross.

CLASS-LEVELS AND OTHER CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:
(as per American Red Cross Standards)

Guppies: 3-5 years (Level I)
(Beginner floatation devices will be used)
 
Increase the child's comfort level in the water:
a.) Exit water independently using ladder, ramp, steps, or side of pool.
b.) Bob in water (up to chin) 10 times.
 
Teach child breathing control:
a.) Bubble blowing.
b.) Fully submerge face for 3 seconds.
 
Teach child how to float on stomach:
a.) Supported float on front.
b.) Unsupported float on front.
 
Teach child how to float on back:
a.) Supported float on back.
b.) Unsupported float on back.
 
Teach child proper kicking techniques:
a.) Hanging to the wall flutter kicks.
b.) Supported flutter kicks.
 
Teach child proper safety skills:
a.) Jump into pool with P.F.D..
b.) Reach assists.
c.) Pool Rules.
  $70.00 for eight 30-minute lessons.

Sea Horses: 3-5 years (Level II)
(Intermediate floatation devices will be used)
 
Teach front crawl with floatation device:
a.) Teach proper hand stokes.
b.) Teach proper front flutter kick techniques.
 
Teach backstroke with floatation device:
a.) Introduce head back belly up position
b.) Teach proper hand strokes.
c.) Teach proper back flutter kick techniques
 
Teach proper breathing techniques:
a.) Bubble blowing.
b.) Rotary breathing drill.
 
Teach child proper safety skills:
a.) Jump into pool with P.F.D..
b.) Reach assists with/without equipment.
c.) Pool Rules.
    $70.00 for eight 30-minute lessons.

Angelfish: 4-5 years (Level III)
(Advanced: Swimming without the use of floats)
 
Improve front crawl without floatation devices:
a.) Improve proper hand strokes.
b.) Improve proper front flutter kick techniques.
 
Improve backstroke without floatation devices:
a.) Introduce head back belly up position.
b.) Teach proper hand strokes.
c.) Teach proper flutter kick techniques
 
Teach proper breathing techniques:
a.) Bubble blowing.
b.) Rotary breathing drill.
 
Teach treading water techniques:
a.) Teach proper arm movements.
b.) Teach proper leg movements.
 
Teach child proper safety skills:
a.) Jump into pool with P.F.D..
b.) Reach assists with/without equipment.
c.) Pool Rules.
    $70.00 for eight 30-minute lessons.


Sharks: 6-12 years (Level 4)
(Advanced beginner)
 
Improve front crawl:
a.) Introduce the push back techniques.
b.) Introduce closed finger swim stroke.
c.) Introduce full extension front stroke.
 
Improve backstroke:
a.) Introduce head back belly up position
b.) Teach proper hand strokes.
 
Improve treading water techniques:
a.) Introduce proper hand movements.
b.) Introduce proper leg movements.
 
Teach surface diving techniques:
a.) Retrieve object from bottom of pool with eyes open.
b.) Teach proper diving position.
 
Improve child's endurance:
a.) Increase child's front crawl by 10 yards.
b.) Increase child's swimming stability.
 
Teach child proper safety skills:
a.) Jump into deep water with life jacket.
b.) Learn the H.E.L.P. position.
c.) Introduce the Huddle Position.
$70.00 for eight 30-minute lessons.


PLACEMENT TEST DATES:

**All registration dates and locations**
**will be posted at the pools starting on Memorial Day weekend**

It is recommended that a child take the placement test, however if
a child is unable attend the parent must fill out this [ waiver form ]
in full, including the [ swim check list ] , and send it with
a check one week prior to class.

Children should wear their bathing suit and bring a towel with them.

CLASS SESSIONS:

Classes will be held 4 times a week (Monday-Thursday) for 2 weeks (eight 1/2 hour sessions).
